Avebury and Stonehenge in one day

Avebury and Stonehenge are part of the same World Heritage Site, and English Heritage says Stonehenge is within a 45 minute drive of Avebury. Our shuttle runs between Salisbury station and Avebury; for Stonehenge, take the Stonehenge Tour bus from Salisbury station, or one of the X2 buses that call there.
Your shuttle is a licensed private hire car run by Premier Taxis Salisbury.

Two very different places

At Avebury you can walk among the stones for free, with a village around you. Stonehenge has a visitor centre and timed tickets.
English Heritage doesn’t require you to book Stonehenge, but tickets booked online until midnight the day before are cheaper than paying on the day. Members go free and don’t need to book.
The National Trust says Stonehenge would fit inside one of the smaller circles at Avebury. Together they became a World Heritage Site in 1986.

Getting to Stonehenge from Salisbury

The Stonehenge Tour
A hop on hop off bus run by Salisbury Reds, from Salisbury rail station and the city centre to Stonehenge. English Heritage lists it too.
Salisbury Reds X2
Salisbury Reds’ route 2 timetable shows some X2 buses calling at the Stonehenge coach park when the site is open, Monday to Saturday.
At Stonehenge
The stones are about 1.5 miles from the visitor centre. English Heritage runs a shuttle bus every few minutes, about 5 to 10 minutes each way, or you can walk in 25 to 40 minutes.

A plan for the day

1
Morning: Avebury. Shuttle from Salisbury station to the Red Lion, and walk the circle while it’s quiet.
2
Back to Salisbury. Shuttle back to the station.
3
Afternoon: Stonehenge. Take the Stonehenge Tour bus from the station, or an X2 that calls at Stonehenge. Check the times first: we don’t copy them here.
Premier Taxis Salisbury
Run by Premier Taxis Salisbury, licensed by Wiltshire Council. Fixed price, no surprises.
