Kids, dogs and access

Dogs on leads are welcome at Avebury, except in the Manor and Circles Café. Two sectors of the stone circle have level access, wheelchairs can be borrowed, and there are accessible toilets with baby changing behind Visitor Reception.
Your shuttle is a licensed private hire car run by Premier Taxis Salisbury.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome on a lead, apart from in Avebury Manor and Circles Café. English Heritage asks for dogs to be on a lead at all times, as sheep graze among the stones.
The National Trust asks for a short fixed lead in the Manor garden, the car park, the Old Farmyard, the museum and the shop. There are water bowls in the Old Farmyard. Assistance dogs are welcome in the Manor and the café too.

Wheelchairs and pushchairs

The stone circle
Partly accessible: the north west and south west sectors have level access. Some ground is uneven, so they’re best when dry, and the gates can be hard to open on your own.
Wheelchairs
Several manual wheelchairs, one powered wheelchair and an all terrain scooter, free, first come first served. Ask at Visitor Reception in the barn, where there’s a step free map too.
Pushchairs
The National Trust doesn’t say. The level sectors of the circle are your best bet; elsewhere there are steps and uneven ground, and the Old Farmyard has some cobbles.
Garden, museum, café and shop
The Manor garden is fully accessible and the museum has a hearing loop. The café and shop are accessible on the ground floor.
Getting dropped off
Blue Badge parking is in the High Street car park, and there’s a drop off point outside the Red Lion, where our shuttle stops.

Toilets

Toilets with disabled access and baby changing are behind Visitor Reception. There are more on the High Street in the summer season.

With children

The National Trust calls Avebury a perfect place to bring the family. The stones are free, so you can stay as long as the children last. Under 5s go free into the Manor and garden.
Ask for the free Wild Spotter trail sheet. Take care near the bank and ditch, which are 9 metres deep, by the unfenced pond in the Old Farmyard, and crossing the roads through the village.
Premier Taxis Salisbury
