By bus to Avebury

There’s no direct bus. Either take Salisbury Reds route 2 to Devizes and change to the Stagecoach 49, or take the X5 to Marlborough and change to the 42, run by Swindon’s Bus Company.
Your shuttle is a licensed private hire car run by Premier Taxis Salisbury.

Through Devizes

The National Trust and Stagecoach give different figures for how often the 49 runs, so check the timetable before you set off. Route 2 doesn’t run on Sundays or public holidays.
Salisbury Reds route 2
Salisbury to Devizes, by Great Wishford, Shrewton, West Lavington and Potterne. In Devizes it stops at the Market Place.
Then Stagecoach 49
It runs between Swindon, Devizes and Trowbridge and passes through Avebury. Catch it at Devizes Market Place: Stagecoach’s timetable shows every 49 towards Swindon leaving from there and calling at Avebury Red Lion about 27 minutes later.

Through Marlborough

Salisbury Reds X5
Salisbury to Swindon, by way of Amesbury, Pewsey and Marlborough. In Salisbury, catch it at Blue Boar Row, stop M, and get off at Marlborough High Street.
Then the 42
Run by Swindon’s Bus Company, from Calne and Marlborough to Avebury. English Heritage says it runs Monday to Saturday only, with no Sunday service. In Marlborough it leaves from the High Street Post Office stop, B, a different stop from the X5’s, and some early buses skip Avebury.

On a Sunday

Neither way works on a Sunday: route 2 and the 42 don’t run, and no X5 runs to Marlborough on a Sunday. Check the timetables before you plan a Sunday trip by bus.

A bus that doesn’t stop in Avebury

The Wiltshire Connect 100 between Devizes and Marlborough stops at Beckhampton and West Kennett, not in Avebury itself.

Arriving by bus

The Avebury (Red Lion) stop is in the centre of the village. The National Trust takes £1 off entry to the Manor and museum for visitors who come by bus.
Premier Taxis Salisbury
Run by Premier Taxis Salisbury, licensed by Wiltshire Council. Fixed price, no surprises.
